LED Light Therapy Lowdown

Let There Be Light

Benefits of Regular LED Treatments

How exactly can having a 20 minute lay down under some lights improve skin?

LED Light Therapy is also known as PDT (Photo Dynamic Therapy). It is based on LED’S (Light Emitting Diodes) that emit electromagnetic waves at different wavelegths to penetrate the skin and provide energy to the cells. It is this energy that promotes cellular metabolism.

LED Light Therapy treatment works to improve skin conditions. Scientifically speaking, individual lights of LED’s penetrate the subcutaneous tissue to energise the mitochondria in cells; they, in turn produce more ATP (Adenosine triphosphate) which cause the cell to reproduce faster. This overall action leads to improved micro-circulation of blood, which results in new collagen and elastin growth.

If the wavelength emitted is in the visible spectrum between 400nm and 800nm, then the colour will be a visible blue, red, yellow or green light.  If the wavelength emitted is not in the visible spectrum then the light will not be visible , like Infra-Red light. Skin responds differently depending on the wavelengths used. This means that treatment of diffent skin conditions can occur depending on the selection of colour of light.

Each colour penetrates skin at a different depth, with Infra Red (IR) being the deepest – making it ideal for wound healing and inflammation.  Acne is best treated with Blue Light as it targets the top layer to destroy bacteria whereas fine lines and wrinkles are suited to Red Light which penetrates deeper.  The Green Light’s wavelength sits perfectly between Red and Blue and works to improve lymph circulation. By mixing these colours up, we can also produce Yellow Light for skin cell resitance, healing and toning and Pink Light to firm skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

LED Therapy is non-invasive, non-ablative, safe and natural. It does not contain any UVA, UVB or ultra violet light. The treatment works as a stand alone treatment or in addition to other signature or clinical treatments. LED Therapy after a facial treatment extends the benefits of the facial,  promoting overall skin health and rejuvenation.

Regular LED treatments provide ongoing improvments to the skin, smoothing overall skin tone as the collagen and elastin fibres are formed.  By stimulating the skin cell metabolic function, the skin’s complexion appears healthier and more uniform with reduction of lines, wrinkles and faster healing of skin conditions.

LED therapy is pain free, chemical free, safe for all skin types and a relaxing, pleasant treatment to have. The LED Light Therapy treatment takes 20 minutes on average, although this can vary.  Your Karpati Skin Therapist will consult with you prior and determine the custom setting that is best suited for your individual skin type. We recommend a hand or foot massage during the LED treatment for the ultimate pampering experience.
