Collagen Induction Therapy or as it is more commonly known – Micro-needling has been around for a while now and for good reason.

Collagen Induction Therapy can help to treat Melasma, minimize the effects of ageing (collagen yay!), treat Acne and Scarring all in about 4 to 6 treatments!

Collagen Induction Therapy creates thousands of micro-injuries in the skin, similar to tiny pin pricks to stimulate the skins natural healing processes.  This process causes your fibroblasts (the cells responsible for producing collagen) to reproduce and create new collagen and elastin thus changing the structure of your skin – firmer, plumper, healthier.

It takes about 6-8 weeks for this new collagen to bind together to become firm and strong which is why you need to wait this amount of time in-between treatments. Due to the micro-injuries, the skin will also take its time to heal which means that it will heal without inflammation. There can be some mild peeling a few days after the treatment due to the accelerated cell renewal process.

The depth to which we will go will depend on your concern. If your concern is Melasma we are focusing on removing the superficial pigment so won’t go deeper than 0.5mm as we don’t want to overstimulate the skin nor create any heat. If we are treating scarring we can go down to depths of 2mm to get deep into the dermis to repair the collagen and elastin and even the skin out.

At Karpati we use the SkinPen – a class IIa Medical Device for Collagen Induction Therapy.  For every client we have an individual patient treatment kit which includes the cartridge containing 14 stainless steel needles to make it smooth and sterile. It also has a lockout feature which means once the cartridge can only be used once and each time the pen is used it is covered with a plastic sheath to prevent any cross contamination. The kit also contains a take home product which helps to soothe and repair the skin post treatment and assist in the collagen building process.

We would also recommend you to come in for a thorough consult beforehand so that your skin therapist can properly assess your needs and concerns and tailor a Collagen Induction Therapy treatment plan for you.
